Bucciferro earns Cape League honors

by PR/Wire Report/

Tony Bucciferro (Michigan State) has been named Cape Cod Baseball League Pitcher and Player of the Week after a one-hit effort against Falmouth last week.

Bucciferro was nearly flawless over seven innings, allowing only one base runner and surrendering no runs over seven innings. He struck out five over seven innings.

Bucciferro’s 1.48 earned run average currently ranks fifth-best in the league.

Bucciferro is a junior at Michigan State, where he posted an 8-3 record and a 3.38 earned run average last year.

He had great success last summer in the New England Collegiate Baseball League, where his .82 earned run average secured him first team All-League honors.

Yarmouth-Dennis outfielder Martin Katz (LSU) shared Cape Cod Player of the Week honors with Bucciferro.

Katz had at least one hit in all but one of Yarmouth-Dennis’ games last week and had eight hits — five of them for extra bases — and four walks in six games. Katz also drove in five runs to bring his season total to 10, only two behind league leader Travis Jankowski (Stony Brook).

In his first season as full-time starter at LSU this season, Katz hit .337 and led the team with 21 doubles.
