Konerko named to AL All-Star team

Chicago White Sox first baseman Paul Konerko (Providence, R.I.) was announced as the American League's winner of the 2011 Final Vote.
With more than 8.4 million votes, Konerko topped Victor Martinez of the Detroit Tigers, Alex Gordon of the Kansas City Royals, Adam Jones of the Baltimore Orioles and Ben Zobrist of the Tampa Bay Rays.
Konerko will now be part of the A.L. roster for the 82nd Annual All-Star Game on Tuesday, July 12 in Phoenix. He is hitting .319 this season and is among league leaders in RBI (64, fourth), home runs (22, fourth), OPS (.961, fourth), slugging percentage (.572, fourth) and average (.319, sixth). Konerko joins teammate and second-time All-Star Carlos Quentin at this year's Midsummer Classic.
