Costantino, Pizzano snare NECBL awards

Laconia pitcher Chris Costantino and North Shore outfielder Dario Pizzano have been named New England Collegiate Baseball League Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively.

Costantino (Walters State CC/Lincoln, R.I.) became the fifth pitcher in NECBL history and first for Laconia to throw a no-hitter. Costantino shut down Keene, striking out nine Swamp Bats and throwing 70 strikes out of 107 pitches. Costantino capped off the week with a 14 strikeout, 5-1 win over New Bedford on June 23.

Pizzano (Columbia University/Saugus, Mass.) hit at a .500 pace with 13 hits, including two doubles and a home run while scoring eight runs last week. His on-base percentage was .581 and his slugging percentage was .692.
