Ortiz accepts salary arbitration

Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz has accepted the Red Sox offer of salary arbitration.

Ortiz is expected to receive a significant increase over his 2011 salary of $12.5 million.

Ortiz accepted Boston’s offer prior to Wednesday’s midnight deadline.

In addition, pitcher Dan Wheeler (Warwick, R.I.) declined Boston’s offer of salary arbitration before Wednesday night’s deadline.
