Being the third seed in the New England Small School preparatory tournament mattered little to The Winchendon School.
Second-year head coach John Toffey, who previously enjoyed successful coaching stints at Cheshire School and Salisbury School, prepared his team well throughout the season in the case they made it to the postseason.
As their results showed. Winchendon ran the table in the tournament, closing it out it with a 6-2 victory over King School, their 11th victory in their final 13 contests.
“Our season started with a great spring training trip to Florida,” said Toffey, whose team finished 20-6. “Our team really came together and started to play fundamentally sound baseball by the end of the trip. Winchendon is fortunate to have a full-time strength and conditioning coach [Mariette Martinez] who lives on our campus. We were able to see significant gains in the weight room as a team and this was instrumental to our team’s success.”
