No matter how the rest of 2024 unfolds, it will be a memorable season for coach John Delaney and his Quinnipiac program.
The Bobcats are chasing a MAAC championship after producing 30 wins for just the second time ever last spring, but now do so on a sparkling new turf field that opened in early March.
Many former players and supporters are to thank for the field project, which has helped Quinnipiac to level up among some of the top programs in the Northeast. Really, though, it wouldn’t have been possible without the work that players like senior catcher/outfielder Keegan O’Connor (Andover, Mass.) have done to raise the standards in Hamden, Conn.
“The alumni really bought in because of what guys like Keegan did here. They’re kids that developed into the players they are now,” said Delaney (Hanson, Mass.), a 2008 Quinnipiac graduate who is now the program’s 10th-year skipper. “He’s a big piece to what we’ve been doing the past couple of years, and really the face of the program right now. … We’ve never been a program that was always getting high-end talents, we’ve had to find guys. Kids like (Keegan) have worked hard and found success.”
