The regular season came to an end for the majority of New England’s Division 1 baseball teams this weekend, but for one New England squad, it featured a long-awaited NCAA tournament clinch as an appetizer to conference tournament play.
Harvard broke the longest NCAA tournament drought in program history with a two-game Ivy League Playoff Series sweep in Cambridge. The Crimson now have a week-long wait before the NCAA tournament field is announced on Memorial Day.
The focus shifts to the remainder of “May Madness” this week. Quinnipiac earned a share of the MAAC regular-season crown for the first time in program history, while two of their Connecticut foes will join first-place Bryant in the Northeast Conference’s postseason field of four teams in Norwich, Conn.
Three New England clubs will also compete in America East postseason play, including UMass Lowell, which will look to continue a late-season surge that propelled it all the way to fourth place.
