The second season is here in Division 3 baseball.
Three of New England’s NCAA qualifiers will open regional play on their home fields this weekend with Southern Maine, UMass Boston, and Babson serving as No. 1 seeds. However, the latter club will be the top team in a pod hosted at Trinity College in Hartford. All three of those pods feature three in-region clubs.
The Beavers and Bantams have been mainstays in New England Baseball Journal’s Top 10 all season long, but conference tournament misses left them both awaiting at-large bids. Wheaton and Southern Maine were both in the same position, though the Huskies maintain their No. 1 slot in New England after playing three Little East postseason games.
