There is a lot to digest before postseason play begins in the world of Division 3 baseball. Especially during a season like this one where Mother Nature has reigned over all, conference playoff pictures are in varying states and tournaments will begin at different times.
First off, it’s important to note that the first NCAA Regional Rankings of the season were released yesterday. These rankings will be released over the next three weeks, putting into practice the exact same criteria (to name a few: in-region records, strength of schedule, and opponents’ winning percentage) that will be used to select at-large bids to the national tournament next month.
While the remainder of the regular season and tournaments will obviously have a major impact on the tournament field, the Regional Rankings are a good way to gauge what a possible regional field could look like through the NCAA committee’s eyes.
