Futures Collegiate Baseball League Commissioner Joe Paolucci confirmed to New England Baseball Journal last week that the league owners are planning to push forward with a 40-game season starting on July 1.
With the cancellations of the Cape Cod League and New England Collegiate Baseball League earlier this spring, the Futures League figures to offer the best show in town from a summer collegiate baseball perspective.
As such, many big-name players that might ordinarily play on the Cape or in the NECBL currently find themselves on Futures League rosters. Many are New Englanders, but some rosters even include elite players from outside of the region. Those players presumably have friends or family in the area to host them so that they can commute to games.
