One of New England's best high school prospects ever -- Phillips Andover '23 Thomas White -- proved he is indeed human on Sunday, ending up on the wrong end of an 11-1 thumping by Dexter Southfield in the semifinal of the CNEPSBL Tournament. Dexter later fell to Worcester Academy in the CNEPSBL championship game.
For the first time in White's decorated high school career, an opposing team hit him hard, to the tune of eight earned runs over 4 ⅓ innings. The hard-throwing left-hander allowed one home run, three triples and five walks.
The timing of the ineffective start wasn't ideal, as White will have very few chances to redeem himself in the eyes of scouts before the MLB Amateur Draft in July. In MLB's most recent list of the top 150 prospects, White was ranked 17th. Just about every MLB Draft prognosticator believes White will earn a selection in the first round.
Here are five thoughts about the impact White's CNEPSBL semifinal start might have on his draft status.
