Ryan Puglisi understands that his college commitment will prevent him from playing his senior baseball season at Avon Old Farms next spring.
That’s the life of a highly recruited four-star quarterback committed to two-time defending national champion Georgia. Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart’s offer to Puglisi came with a stipulation that he early-enrolls at Georgia in December of 2023, the same month when the quarterback will turn 18.
As a result, one of New England’s top high school baseball prospects will effectively retire from the sport after his junior season at Avon Old Farms in May.
“Baseball was always my No. 1 sport until seventh grade,” Puglisi said. “I didn’t play quarterback until sixth grade. I gave a lot of thought to playing both in college, but that’s probably not going to happen at Georgia.”
