Kenny Ackerman has decided to retire from his position as head baseball coach at Tabor Academy at the conclusion of this season. Seawolves assistant coach Matt Karis, a former All-ISL selection at Noble and Greenough, will take over as head coach in 2024.
Ackerman coached baseball at various independent schools for the last 32 years, the last 10 of which came in the head coaching role at Tabor. Prior to that decade, he spent two years as an assistant to former Tabor head coach Tom Angelo, who took over as the school's athletic director in 2014.
Ackerman's youngest son, Gus, will graduate from Tabor Academy this spring before going off to play junior hockey and eventually enroll at Trinity College. Ackerman also has two older sons -- twins Jonas and Percy -- who graduated from Tabor last year.
"I just wanted to be a family man a little more and also put my focus in the classroom as well as partaking in other opportunities on campus," Ackerman said. "I'm not going anywhere, as I am staying at Tabor and will continue to be a huge supporter of the program moving forward.''
