Austin Prep two-way prospect Dylan Cunningham ’28, identified by New England Baseball Journal as New England’s top uncommitted prospect earlier this fall, has committed to the University of Virginia. The right-hander's fastball tops out at 95 mph, and he also has rare power with the bat.
Virginia is historically one of the top programs in the ACC, with seven College World Series appearances.
The Peabody, Mass., resident committed to the Cavaliers coaching staff after visiting Virginia and Auburn. Cunningham led Austin Prep in innings pitched in 2026, posting a 4-1 record and 0.55 ERA with 43 strikeouts. This summer, he clocked a 95.1-mph fastball at the Prep Baseball Future Games. He also participated in the USA Baseball National Team Development Program.
Cunningham is currently recovering from Tommy John surgery, which he underwent in September after consulting with New York Yankees team physician Christopher Ahmad. He is unlikely to take the mound again in a game situation until next fall, but will serve as a designated hitter for Austin Prep next spring.
