Roger Williams welcomes coach Kevin Kelley with coach-free practices

The Roger Williams University baseball team’s preparations and excitement for the upcoming spring have kicked into high gear since Kevin Kelley was announced as their new head coach earlier this month.

Kelley, whose duties with the Hawks will officially begin on Jan. 15, returns home to New England after leading the Rutgers University-Newark program for the previous two years. The Suffolk University graduate also spent nine total seasons and five as the associate head coach at UMass Boston, helping Brendan Eygabroat establish one of the nation’s top Division 3 programs.

“I didn’t want to call the job at Rutgers-Newark a stepping stone by any means, but it was for me to get in the game as a head coach,” Kelley said. “I knew I was going to try to make my way back home at some point. When I saw the Roger Williams job open, I thought it would be a great place to put my name in.”

The Hawks couldn’t be happier moving forward with their selection, but the COVID-19 pandemic wasn’t the only thing that made getting to this point unique.
