Playing on a Cape Cod League championship-winning team filled with New England talents this past summer, Cam Maldonado jumped off the page. The rising Northeastern junior outfielder from Wolcott, Conn., showcased an all-around game for the Harwich Mariners, leading the club and ranking among the top-10 league hitters in both RBI and stolen bases during the regular season. He won the John J. Claffey Award as the top New England prospect on the Cape.
He played at his best during the Mariners’ first championship run since 2011, going 10 for 28 with three RBI and five runs scored in six postseason games.
After prepping at Hamden Hall, Maldonado burst onto the scene as one of New England’s top players and a Freshman All-American in 2023, hitting a team-best .353 with a rookie program-record 13 home runs and 45 RBI. However, he hit just .265 with 23 RBI last spring for the Huskies before reemerging on the Cape.
Harwich manager Steve Englert (Boston, Mass.) believes that Maldonado’s summer has set him up for a big, bounce-back type of year ahead and discussed his impressions of the talented outfielder in the latest edition of NEBJ’s Prospect Watch.
