An intriguing season of Division 3 baseball in New England has reached its climax. Seven conference champions have been crowned and the 58-team NCAA tournament field was released Monday afternoon.
Three New England clubs — Southern Maine, UMass Boston, and Trinity — were selected to host four-team regionals, with games slated to begin on Friday. Babson will be the No. 1 seed in the latter of those brackets as the tournament format will mimic that of the Division 1 level for the first time.
The full tournament bracket can be found here.
There was an added level of intrigue to this past weekend’s action as the top four teams in the third NCAA Regional Rankings were all eliminated from conference championship contention, meaning that they had to await decisions from the NCAA about their at-large fate. All four — the aforementioned Southern Maine and Trinity, as well as NEWMAC rivals Babson and Wheaton — made the field.
