Growing up in Springfield, Mass., even as one of the top players for his age, Isan Diaz didn’t always believe he had what it took to be a major-leaguer. He didn’t even believe his own father.
“He had this vision that he says he always saw of success, (even the) big leagues,” Diaz recently told New England Baseball Journal. “At the time, I really didn’t believe him. I didn’t really know myself where I was heading or what I was getting myself into. But I can honestly say to this day, that he’s been right so far. Hopefully, he’ll continue to be right.”
Diaz — who was featured on the cover of NEBJ as a senior at Springfield Central High School in 2014 — is right on target for the major leagues and on the verge of proving his dad correct once again.
The week ahead will be a busy one for Diaz — now with the New Orleans Baby Cakes in the Miami Marlins organization — with a couple of high-profile stops as his journey to the majors nears its apex.
