The many goals of the Connecticut Huskies on the diamond in 2023 can be summed up quite simply:
Win at least one more game.
One more win is all that it would have taken for UConn to punch a ticket to Omaha and the College World Series, as it fell just short in the Stanford Super Regional last June. Despite the bitter end, the Huskies still won 50 games and their second straight Big East regular-season and tournament titles since rejoining the conference.
“I know when we do make it to Omaha we’ll be standing on the shoulders of the special, special guys that played in 2022 and won more games than any Division 1 baseball team in New England baseball history,” coach Jim Penders (Vernon, Conn.) said in his June 13 postgame press conference.
