WINCHENDON, Mass. -- John Toffey appears to have mastered the art of building a college-prep baseball program in New England.
His latest coaching stop, Winchendon School, is about to burst onto the national stage as a college baseball prep destination with a $4 million improvement to the athletic facilities slated to begin in the coming weeks.
Toffey arrived at Winchendon School in 2019, with a resume chock-full of accomplishments. He spent seven years as head coach at Salisbury School, and three at Cheshire Academy. His record during that span was an unprecedented 135-9, including eight WNEPBL championships.
When he got to Winchendon, he set a plan for a complete program rebuild. Prior to Toffey's arrival, the baseball program was basically a junior varsity club, playing a limited number of games. Toffey devoted his attention to changing the culture. In his first season, he guided Winchendon to a NEPSAC Small title.
