It was a busy summer filling up stat sheets and record books for top Division 2 pitchers around New England.
Assumption University has been a fixture across the local summer landscape for years, and it proved to be no different in 2021 as Greyhounds senior Patrick Harrington (Bedford, N.H.) and junior Jack Choate (North Grafton, Mass.) emerged among the Futures Collegiate Baseball League’s best.
Harrington was named the FCBL’s Pitcher of the Year after winning his last five starts for the champion Vermont Lake Monsters, while Choate followed his former teammate and All-East Region righty Cole Chudoba (Oxford, Conn.) to the Worcester Bravehearts and set the league’s single-season strikeout record with 82 in 54⅓ innings.
“It would have been cool to have Pat on my team,” Choate laughed, “but getting to play him all summer and compete against guys from bigger programs was a great experience. I think it says a lot about the D-2 or D-3 guys because they’ve got more to prove.”
