New England Baseball Complex Tournament Director Ted Novio prepared an email last Friday to coaches and players around the New England region, breaking the news that the facility would begin hosting tournaments on June 29.

Just as Novio was preparing to hit send, Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker stood in front of a podium in Boston and announced that the start of Phase 3 in the state's reopening plan would be delayed until July 5 -- at the earliest.

Novio's email was no longer accurate. The timeline was pushed back at least a week.

"It's been difficult, to tell you the truth," Novio said. "I couldn't put a dollar figure to it. We've had to cancel or postpone 10 tournaments right now. We're able to reschedule to other dates in the summer, for the most part. We'll utilize August to a greater degree than we have in the past. Still, we probably won't be able to make up three or four tournaments. That takes a toll."
