BC’s Mason Pelio shrugs off expectations after USA Baseball invitation

Expectations continue to build for Boston College pitcher Mason Pelio. But the New Hampshire-born, Southern California-raised right-hander isn’t buying in to any of them.

Instead, the rising sophomore is trying to remain focused on his own game and on enjoying the moment — no matter how big or prestigious it gets.

After a dominant first season with the Eagles, in which he was named a Freshman All-American by Perfect Game, Pelio earned another loftier achievement last week with an invitation to USA Baseball’s Collegiate National Team training camp.

“I wasn’t surprised because I really think and believe that Mason is good enough and talented enough and competitive enough to pitch with Team USA,” Boston College coach Mike Gambino said.
