Independent School League (ISL) coaches have approved a proposal to conclude the 2024 season with a postseason tournament to determine the league champion.
The ISL previously determined its league champion through regular-season play. Each of the 16 schools rotated through a 15-game schedule, which included all other ISL opponents. Because the league champion was determined strictly on overall record, many years there were co- or tri-champions.
In order to make time for the ISL postseason tournament, each ISL team will now play an 11-game regular season and three-game playoff. The move to an imbalanced schedule was necessary to ensure that all schools completed the season before graduation dates.
The top eight teams at the conclusion of the regular season will be seeded in a championship tournament, while the lower eight teams will be seeded into a consolation bracket.
