One of the most influential prep baseball coaches in New England, Kevin Graber, resigned from his post as head coach at Phillips Andover (Mass.) on Wednesday to accept a coaching position in the Chicago Cubs organization.
The two-time American Baseball Coaches Association Northeast Region Coach of the Year will serve as the complex coordinator at the Chicago Cubs' spring training facility in Mesa, Ariz. He expects to oversee all of the organization's operations during spring training in addition to assuming field manager responsibilities for the Arizona Cubs -- Chicago's Rookie-level affiliate.
"The ink is on the contract," Graber said. "They want me there pretty soon. I don't want to say it came out of nowhere, but it sort of came out of nowhere."
Graber has resided over New England's top prep school program over the last decade. His teams won four of the last eight CNEPSBL championships and five during Graber's 13-year tenure. Phillips Andover was also the No. 1-ranked team in the NEBJ Prep Coaches Poll at the conclusion of the 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2022 seasons.
