The first week of the Cape League season will draw to a close tomorrow, and many New Englanders have taken advantage of their playing time in the nation's premier summer collegiate league.
The opening week of the season offers additional Cape League opportunities for New England players due to the fact that it overlaps with the D1 College World Series. Not only are the top eight teams in the nation still playing, leaving holes on Cape League rosters that are expecting players from those teams, but many of the players from D1 teams that got eliminated in the Super Regionals last weekend -- like UConn -- have still yet to take the field on the Cape.
As a result, Cape League teams often fill the holes on their respective rosters with New England players on temporary contracts. Those players can earn permanent contracts with productive play.
Here's a look at 10 New England players who had productive opening weeks of the Cape League season.
