Jay Driver is no stranger to Cape Cod.
Like most Massachusetts-bred players with college baseball dreams, he was familiar with the Cape Cod League long before his career in the sport took him from his hometown of Wellesley, Mass., down the road to Harvard University.
Driver grew up going to many games on the Cape, and he even remembers a close family friend hosting former Red Sox and current Colorado Rockies pitcher Daniel Bard while he was a member of the Wareham Gatemen back in 2005.
“It’s really a dream come true,” said Driver, a rising Harvard senior who is in his second summer pitching for the Hyannis Harbor Hawks. “Being able to play on the Cape and having an impact on the kids is something that’s pretty special (because) I remember what those players meant to me when I was the same age. It’s an amazing experience and, obviously, a great environment and level of competition to play in and against.”
