While the Cape Cod Baseball League is the summertime home of the best players from all across the country, each season presents the opportunity for some local boys to make good.
There’s a strong chance that more than one of those stories could come from the Falmouth Commodores in 2024.
Longtime Falmouth skipper and soon-to-be Cape League Hall of Famer Jeff Trundy’s club includes three full-contract players in Harvard pitcher Tanner Smith (Duxbury, Mass.), Wheaton pitcher Ryan McCarroll and Fairfield outfielder Matt Bucciero (Ridgefield, Conn.), but more than a handful of other New England natives and college players were slated to get at least a temporary taste of the league.
Recruiting New England is no different than other areas of the country for Cape League coaches, but Trundy (West Minot, Maine) would be lying if he said there wasn’t a bit of a soft spot for the local players he is able to bring to his squad each summer.
