The Blue Devils of Central Connecticut State have had a fun year on the baseball diamond.
After springtime ended with CCSU winning its second Northeast Conference championship in the past three years, two important members of head coach Charlie Hickey’s squad followed up a winning school year with more accomplishments in the New England Collegiate League.
Senior outfielder Dave Matthews (Newtown, Conn.) ended his summer stint with the Keene Swamp Bats as a champion, while junior first baseman TT Bowens (Montville, Conn.) used his time as a Mystic Schooner to etch his name among the best the venerable circuit has ever seen.
For both Blue Devils, the summer was an opportunity to tune up for the spring season that lies several months ahead as they again look to topple a Bryant team that has captured conference regular-season titles in eight consecutive seasons.
