The effects of the everchanging coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak and global pandemic have been felt all over the sports world.

Over the last few days, baseball seasons for many colleges and their respective conferences throughout New England had been impacted -- from the cancellation of spring break trips in Florida, Arizona, etc., to the suspension or cancellation of the entire schedule -- out of an abundance of caution for all involved.

This whirlwind week has included numerous Division 1 teams returning north for the expected start of their New England competitions while teams at other levels had just completed, were soon to embark on, or in the midst of their spring break travels. Quickly, things have changed .

The biggest news to drop came at 4:16 p.m. Wednesday when the NCAA announced the cancellation of all remaining winter and spring championships including the College World Series -- not slated to begin until mid-May, in Division 2, at the earliest -- at all three levels.
