Nick Barese confirmed to New England Baseball Journal this afternoon that he will not be returning as Merrimack College's head baseball coach next season.
"I'm no longer at Merrimack," Barese said. "I'm forever grateful for the relationships that I built with players, coaches, alumni and family. I feel confident in saying that I've always acted as an advocate and in the best interests of my student-athletes and baseball program."
Barese did not specify the reason for his exit from a program that he headed for seven seasons. His departure does not figure to be performance-related, as his teams posted a combined record of 153-130 during his tenure while making a relatively smooth transition from Division 2 to Division 1.
Merrimack College athletic director Jeremy Gibson did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
