In the summer of 2022, the city of Lowell, Mass., approved the sale of LeLacheur Park to UMass Lowell for $1 million.
That led to speculation around the baseball world as to how the university would use a ballpark that served as home of the Red Sox Single-A affiliate, the Lowell Spinners, from 1998 to 2019.
At the time of the sale, UMass Lowell committed to investing $3 million to maintaining and renovating the park, similar to what the university did after purchasing the Tsongas Center from the city of Lowell in 2010. After that purchase, UMass Lowell put money and resources into making the Tsongas Center one of the premier hockey and basketball venues in the state.
UMass Lowell Senior Associate Athletic Director Alan Zebrak recently shared an update on LeLacheur Park's improvements with New England Baseball Journal.
