The second weekend of the 2021 college baseball season saw Sacred Heart and UMass Lowell make season debuts, but the headline performance for a New England program was Boston College’s turn at taking down a ranked foe.
After Rhode Island and Northeastern beat ranked opponents -- East Carolina and Wake Forest, respectively -- on opening weekend, the Eagles began Atlantic Coast Conference play with two wins in three games at Duke to climb into the national rankings. BC’s 12-weekend, 36-game conference schedule in 2021 will be a grind, but this weekend was a huge start.
Rhode Island picked up its first series victory of the season as southern slates continued for the majority of New England’s teams. However, the spring’s first challenges for Sacred Heart and Lowell both came in New York.
Five more New England teams are scheduled to take the field for the first time this coming weekend. Don’t forget to check out NEBJ’s Division 1 preview hub for all of our preseason content.
