Conference action dominated the schedule for New England’s Division 1 college baseball teams this past weekend for the first time during the unique 2021 season. America East, MAAC and Northeast Conference clubs all began league slates across the region, while Holy Cross did the same in the Patriot League after taking the field for the first time last Wednesday.
While Maine and UMass Lowell saw some non-conference action over the past several weeks, Saturday’s America East debut for Hartford marked its first action against outside competition. This weekend marked the beginning of 40-game, conference-only schedules in the MAAC.
As for results, Bryant and Fairfield were the biggest winners with three- and four-game sweeps in their respective conference-opening series, while the America East’s Hawks and UMass Lowell both won three of four games. In addition, UConn and UMass both picked up two victories in non-conference play.
