Another poor Sunday forecast threw a curveball at the weekend schedule for New England’s Division 1 baseball programs, forcing much of the action into the short Friday-Saturday time window yet again.
The past week featured the return to action for several of the region’s top clubs following COVID-related pauses, including UConn, Northeastern and Rhode Island. Bryant also got back on the field and faced its most challenging league series at Central Connecticut, while the second group of Huskies continued an undefeated start to conference play and a win streak.
Speaking of undefeated, that is exactly what Fairfield remains after sweeping another MAAC series. The Stags continued to swap places with Arkansas atop the national RPI rankings and entered Baseball America’s Top 25 for the first time ever on Monday morning.
Two of New England’s three America East teams enjoyed much-needed three-win weekends and one did so by finally putting a blemish on the mark of the league’s top pitcher.
