D1 power rankings: Preseason top 10 among New England programs

By Joshua KumminsFebruary 3, 2022

Four D1 New England schools earned conference championship titles last spring, earning opportunities to represent the Northeast on the “Road To Omaha” in NCAA tournament play.

The loss of the Ivy League season and a conference-only schedule for one of the region’s best teams didn’t lessen the number of standout performances during the pandemic-altered 2021 season.

Big East champion UConn made an NCAA appearance for the third year in a row. CAA Tournament champion Northeastern and MAAC regular-season champion Fairfield each posted program-record winning streaks of 20-plus games during the 2021 season on their way to earning NCAA berths. Central Connecticut State University won a NEC championship for the second year in a row before competing in an NCAA Regional.

As we look ahead to the 2022 season, which will start this month, we provide a preseason top 10 ranking of D1 programs in New England.
