While the 2024 season does mark the dawn of a new era for Boston College baseball, first-year coach Todd Interdonato sees many of the same qualities in his new team as the one that put together one of the program’s most successful seasons of recent memory last spring.
The Eagles of yesteryear won 37 games en route to an NCAA regional final in its first tournament appearance since 2016. It helps Interdonato — whose last two teams during a 16-year run at Wofford eclipsed the 40-win mark — that many of the same characters are back and armed with the experience of that memorable run at Alabama.
“Where I’ve derived some confidence from with this group is that we have some really good, proven, successful players that embody good leadership qualities in our most important positions,” said Interdonato, who was hired last July. “I’ve always felt like when your best players are your hardest workers and best examples, that’s when you have a chance for success.”
The lineup returns three players who recorded at least 35 RBI, including a .300 hitter in fifth-year senior center fielder Barry Walsh (Sterling, Mass.). The second-leading returning hitter at .294, senior Patrick Roche (Milton, Mass.), saw action in both the infield and outfield. From a power standpoint, junior corner infielder Nick Wang (Newton, Mass.) and senior left fielder Cameron Leary each hit double-digit home runs.
