The first full week of March was a busy one for New England’s Division 1 baseball teams, but the long trips in the sun are reaching an end as baseball nears its more regular beginnings on home turf over the coming couple of weeks.
More southern outposts didn’t bother some of the region’s top teams, and a few others -- despite struggling overall records -- played extremely competitive baseball against Southeastern Conference foes and built momentum for the games that lie ahead as conference play inches ever closer.
Conference baseball did begin for one New England program (Boston College), another headed home on the ultimate three-game sweeping high note, while four were split between a pair of tournaments based in Florida and North Carolina. The weekend also featured a few teams entering the win column for the first time this season.
