The Division 3 College World Series field will include a pair of New England teams for the second time in three years after Babson and UMass Boston punched their tickets to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with Super Regional wins last weekend.
Babson (38-8) is among the nation’s final eight teams for the first time in program history, while UMass Boston (35-12) returns to the field for the third time in a decade after upstart New England College forced a deciding third game at Monan Park. No other Div. 3 Super Regional series went the distance.
The two New England clubs were placed on opposite sides of the eight-team bracket, setting up the possibility for an in-region meeting for the national championship early next week. Two seasons ago, Wheaton joined UMass Boston in Appleton, Wis. — the home of the World Series for 17 consecutive years.
