Francis Ferguson isn’t your average baseball player.
And 2023 has not been an average year for the Jefferson, Mass., native both at Eastern Nazarene College and with the Futures League’s Vermont Lake Monsters.
A two-way standout as a left-handed pitcher and outfielder for the Lions, Ferguson became the first D3baseball.com and ABCA/Rawlings All-American ever produced by the Quincy, Mass.-based school. He hit .429 with 31 RBI and 15 stolen bases while going 7-2 with a 2.06 ERA and 90 strikeouts in 65 ⅔ innings from the mound last spring.
“I definitely had a lot of confidence coming off the season I had at school, so I think it really just carried over to the summer,” Ferguson said. “I had been in Vermont the previous two years, so I knew what it was like from a personal standpoint … and how the game was different. The pace of the game (in the Futures League) is a lot quicker.”
