When a few New England coaching colleagues were asked to describe Southern Maine’s Ed Flaherty, all of the answers contained some similar words.
The best. Winner. Legend.
Regardless of who got pegged to replace Flaherty, he was undoubtedly going to be left big shoes to fill. USM made that choice over the weekend, announcing former University of Maine associate head coach Scott Heath as Flaherty's replacement. Heath will be the first coach other than Flaherty to run the program in 39 years.
Flaherty announced at midseason that his 38th year at the helm in Gorham would be his last.
