New England’s Division 1 college baseball season came to an end Monday night.
UConn (39-25) was the last of four teams from the region to finish its season in NCAA tournament play, coming one win against Oklahoma State away from making its first Super Regional appearance since 2011.
After being blown out by Cincinnati in the American Athletic Conference championship game and suffering an 8-5 loss to Nebraska in their regional opener, the Huskies won three consecutive elimination games during the regional, including a 16-1 drubbing of the Cornhuskers and a 5-2 decision over the No. 9 Cowboys, to force the winner-take-all contest.
In the end, UConn was held to just five hits and an RBI single from shortstop Anthony Prato during Monday’s 3-1 loss to the hosts.
