This past weekend’s Division 1 college baseball schedule was altered due to inclement Sunday weather, but plenty of action was squeezed into a very busy Friday and Saturday.
It was an especially strong weekend for the region’s Northeast Conference programs as all four finished their second league series of the season with victories. Bryant continues to top the standings after back-to-back sweeps, while Merrimack achieved another milestone for its young D1 tenure.
Hartford and Maine both continued America East Conference action with winning weekends of their own. The story of the Black Bears’ success started on the mound yet again, nearly breaking a program record during a Saturday sweep. The Hawks, Black Bears and UMass Lowell hold down the top three spots in the league’s “Division A” standings.
Northeastern returned to action in sweeping fashion on its home turf, while Connecticut’s Huskies were also non-conference winners for the second straight weekend. The week of firsts continued with the first series win at UConn’s new Elliot Ballpark.
