A college baseball season unlike any other is about set to begin.
The top five teams in New England Baseball Journal’s Preseason Top 10 will all be in action come Friday, Feb. 19, the first day of Division 1 play across the country.
Like this year’s entire college athletics calendar, a season in the age of COVID is going to look different. In a stark contrast from the norm, most schools and conferences in New England have just formalized their plans for the spring within this month.
“Other than making some small adjustments you’ve normally got your schedule done a year out, so we know where we’re going for our non-conference and local games,” Boston College head coach Mike Gambino said. “Now, it’s been day to day, week to week. We didn’t get our ACC schedule until late December or early January, but, really, nobody had finalized their schedules. We just learned about the America East about a week ago, and we’re still waiting on what the Ivy will do. I started a schedule that I was changing every three or four days.”
