The first in-season edition of New England Baseball Journal’s Division 3 Coaches Poll is here.
While five teams have retained or improved upon their positions from the preseason edition, two new teams -- both from the Little East Conference -- have jumped into the fold following the first full week of March play. Some teams have opened their seasons on turf fields throughout New England while others are in currently in the midst of week-long spring break trips featuring some top competition from all over the country.
However, the season as we know it -- and expected it -- has already been impacted by the recent Coronavirus outbreak throughout the United States. The NESCAC, on Wednesday, announced its decision to cancel conference competition and championships across all sports. Trinity, a reigning NCAA tournament participant, had started its season with three consecutive wins just days earlier.
In addition, other teams’ spring break trips have been altered or canceled altogether, leaving holes to fill in schedules for the next week or two. The season goes on for now, but it could look even more different throughout the Division 3 landscape this spring.
