Editor’s note: This is the fifth in an offseason series profiling the region’s Division 1 baseball programs.
Spearheaded by an outstanding triumvirate of now-sophomores garnering significant 2021 MLB draft attention as well as a strong leadership core, Boston College finished off its second 30-win season of the decade with a bang in 2019.
The Eagles, despite not clinching the final Atlantic Coast Conference postseason berth until the season’s last weekend, won two games in the conference tournament and also made a late charge for an NCAA at-large berth. Though BC fell short of qualifying for the latter tournament even with a No. 56 RPI, head coach Mike Gambino sees the pieces coming together for an even more successful encore.
“I think this team has the makings of something really special as far as talent but also the character and makeup of the clubhouse,” Gambino said. “They’re extremely driven to win and get better, but they’re also extremely driven to continue to build upon and strengthen what we think is already a very strong culture.”
