
The summer collegiate season now has kicked into full gear throughout New England with the start of Cape Cod Baseball League action earlier this week, but the Futures Collegiate Baseball League already is two weeks into its schedule after opening play just after Memorial Day.
The Brockton Rox and North Shore Navigators have established an early advantage atop the standings in a league that is loaded with New England talent. After all, the FCBL was established in 2011 with the goal of giving New Englanders opportunities to play high-level summer ball that may not have previously existed.
Some of the league’s statistical leaders entering the weekend are the perfect example. Each of the top six hitters and eight of the top 10 play their college ball within New England and/or call the region home, with all three NCAA divisions represented. On the pitching side, the wins, saves and strikeouts leaders also hail from the region.
Six of the seven FCBL teams have played at least 10 games, so this marks a perfect point in the season to take a look at some early performers. Keep an eye on these 10 players to watch ― all with local ties ― as you head out to FCBL ballparks this summer:
