Packy Naughton, after two years of big league experience, was primed to become an integral piece of a big league bullpen heading into 2023. He seemed primed to earn that spot this spring with five innings of scoreless relief in four appearances when he felt his forearm seize up on the mound.
It was thought to be a minor setback at first, but after further examination, it was decided that surgery would be required to repair the flexor tendon in his left elbow. Now, after a full year of recovery, the Boston native and Boston Latin alumnus has completed all of his rehabilitation. Since his return, Naughton has been pitching strong for the Cardinals’ Triple-A affiliate in Memphis with hopes of returning to the majors for his fourth consecutive season at that level.
We recently caught up with Naughton to get his thoughts on a number of topics.
