Former Merrimack head coach Nick Barese joins UMass Lowell staff

Nick Barese has landed a coaching position at another D1 program in the Merrimack Valley.

The former Merrimack College head coach recently agreed to join Ken Harring's staff at UMass Lowell. He will fill the role of pitching coach, a post that was vacated in November when former UMass Lowell pitching coach Brad Cook accepted the head coaching position at Hobart College.

Barese was fired from his former post at Merrimack College in July after a relatively fruitful seven-year run as head coach. His teams posted a combined record of 153-130 during his tenure while making a relatively smooth transition from Division 2 to Division 1.

It is believed that Barese had philosophical differences with Merrimack College administrators regarding the need for improvements to the school's baseball facilities. The 2021 season marked the debut of Merrimack’s new facility at Greater Lawrence Technical School in Andover after the program played without its own home field for more than two seasons.
