Avon Old Farms can make the case that it is New England's top prep baseball program in 2024.
NEPSAC coaches will make that call next Wednesday in the final NEBJ Prep Coaches Poll of the season. For now, Avon Old Farms (18-4) did its part in cementing its case with a Founders League championship-clinching victory over Choate Academy on Wednesday, May 22.
AOF pinch-runner Connor Naspo scored the game's lone run on a wild pitch in the eighth inning, providing the difference in a 1-0 defeat of Choate. Owen Callaghan earned the win after coming out of the bullpen with Choate runners on first and second in the eighth inning. Callaghan slammed the door with two strikeouts following a sacrifice bunt, stranding runners on second and third. He then pitched a scoreless ninth.
The win clinched back-to-back Founders League titles for Avon Old Farms. Head coach Rob Dowling has led the Winged Beavers to 18 league championships since joining the staff in 1996.
